Drawing an apple begins with a simple, rounded shape – slightly wider at the bottom and gently narrowing toward the top. Lightly sketch the outline first, keeping your lines soft so you can adjust the curves until they feel natural. Add a small inward dip at the top where the stem sits, then draw a short, slightly curved stem emerging from the center. To make the apple look realistic, shade one side more heavily to show where the light isn’t hitting, blending the graphite smoothly to create depth. Finish by adding a subtle highlight on the opposite side and a faint shadow beneath the apple to ground it, giving the drawing a sense of volume and life. I find it fun to do sketches like this in between painting, it helps to keep your eye trained to look for the values in a subject. Â
